great car. had draw backs. first -you had have right size tires on every wheel , same air pressure. best way measure distance round middle of 4 tire when off ground. reason 4wd hated work it's spider gears hard. (they inside ring gear , balance out uneven axle speeds.) had bad habit of breaking out of side of trans when transversing gravel pavement under hard throttle. famous- oil pressure controversy. subaru put out 1.8 engine had 12 # hot oil pressure hot @ idle. not problem-but needed subaru oil filter -or engine starve oil under special circumstances. 1 of first have parking brake part of front brake caliper. if didn't know this-it felt stuck caliper , broken mechanic during brake job.--so parking brake must work or don't buy car. news- 1st trans simple work on. hardest part getting out. 2-even without oil pressure ran forever. 3 have use car launch boats in ocean before fell apart salt. under coated death @ factory , every dealer sold under coat @ time of sales.
have checked out compression, emissions , brakes=put radio in , enjoy.

i concidering buy 1983 subaru gl 4wd wagon, have few questions.
kind of fuel economy get?
how many miles can on odometer if take care of it?
common problems?
