What criteria does the United States use in recognizing a religion; can anyone start one or become ordained?

there no procedure legitimize church or religion. whole point of section of first amendment.

can start religion, if want. call grand high poobaa of high church of wisdom if choose. gain nothing that, nor country lose anything.

there are, tax issues @ stake. irs has convinced church legitimate before issue tax exemptions, , right issue tax reciepts more focussed on use of money, how collected , tracked, etc, on whether call church.

non secular group feeding hungry issued tax free status, while 'church' group raising money have holiday in mexico not.

other benefit churches right of it's clergy perform marriages, , state licensing issue, again, has little religion in day , age. non secular person can license perform marriages in places aformentioned grand poobaa.

as scientology, mormonism, , other religious affiliations relatively new, surely there must way create new religions? first amendment rights imparted protect kinds of ideology in country, why shouldn't crack @ it?
