How would I go about creating then publishing a poetry magazine?

kind of magazine talking about? mean, genre of young poets quite large: talking grade-school young or high school young or poets 'young' in publishing sense of word? also, type of poetry publishing, unpublished or mixture of both old , new? new has advantage of low costs has drawback of not of great and/or lasting value. might first publish young billy collins or end publishing stuff billy collin's landscaper wouldn't read. old has advantage of value issues of copyrights , publishing rights , other costs add value.

else magazine contain: articles, reviews, famous speakers, forewards, afterwards, commercial ads? how big magazine be: bigger magazine, more content needed fill it, means higher printing costs , higher subscription cost sustain it.

audience? there plenty of magazines , journals out there available poets read about, publish in, , critique. makes magazine invaluable section of readers? don't forget audience poets relatively small, , grows smaller more 'professional' get. serious poets aren't going want place work besides people write 'roses red, violets blue...' poems because magazine won't taken seriously.

also, vetting, picking , choosing of material. in addition, gather submissions from? more local pool of resources, more reader local well, limits number of available readers have, , limit resources have, in terms of costs.

if publishing goal relatively minor, there alot of work involved. handmade magazine of 20 pages (10 pages double sided) created own press , sheet binding machine still incurs costs (bulk paper, ink, time , effort assemble...) not mention dove-tailing work between other duties (work, family, relationships, etc etc) , adding staff burden adds upfront costs of running magazine, before single subscriber or paying customer found.

there many successful poetry magazines/periodicals out there. if magazine thinking creating geared more towards professional side, might idea buy several of them , see how organized, since give more concrete ideas of works , doesn't. ratio of poems ads, how many pages, fluctuate between printings, submission guidelines? careful examination of kind of magazine hoping imitate can answer many of questions have, since have done of legwork making print, demonstrating works , doesnt.
