Necessary to wear complete motorcycle gear?

hi,
i'm new rider ninja 250r. using motorcycle commuting, running errands having joy rides on road/mountain road.

understand need quite bit of protection when know i'm going riding twisties or on mountain roads. but, when i'm riding around town, running errands, getting work and/or school.. necessary have gear?

pretty thing i'm curious pants. when going school/works or running errands changing , out of pants can of hassle.. again, i'm sure regret 1 day. shoes/boots thing i'm wondering about.

guys think?

plan wear helmet, gloves, , jacket no matter i'm doing on bike, motorcycle specific pants/shoes necessary less agressive riding?
