1996 Mazda 626 LX Problems...?

hello yahoo community. own '96 mazda 626 lx 4cyl. thats been giving me troubles ever since purchased 1 of family members. heres first of several problems: when start in morning, engine starts make loud squeiling(sp?) type of noise. have no idea be. next problem car shakes , quits on while i'm driving. rpm's move in forth. when on gas, rpm goes way down goes , starts going , forth. has gotten on last nerve. have had new fuel filter put in, know can't problem. thought motor mount wasn't it. last problem have car when head lights on cruise control not work, when head lights off, cruise control works fine. mechanic told me may have shortage. responses appreciated.
