Why was India dissatisfied when Britain took over it?

not sure driving @ here.
if you're talking east india company taking control of & managing large areas of india prior 1857 dissatisfaction not issue. bulk of population non-plussed. might said eic @ least @ competant crumbling mugals & smaller, squabbling royal estates had run india before. populus' former overlords no less remote , spent taxes on armies, palaces , other lavish impractical works eic @ least had eye expanding economic activity & building infrastructure, abate in own interests.

had gone wrong 1857, result of cultural interfereance (mainly independant missionaries) eic failed curtail. british trouble in india was, aside single event, low level. provided british remained socially & culturally unobtrusive indians had few concerns. not including troublesome border districts (afganistan) india controlled quite laughable military resources considering size/population. britain containing large-scale, foriegn backed post-ww1 revolt, in face of hostile people, inconceivable.

20thc did see steady increase in indian nationalism. time when 3rd world nationalism on increase , generation of (frequently british) educated , prosperous indians became political elite drive questioning of british rule.

british rule far perfect hardly helped. growth in india have been greater; investment in railroads & administrations had seen india economically improved still desperatley underdeveloped - britain suffering own economic malaise scarcely country drive things forward. number of ill-advised military/civilian incidents gave hay nationalist forces.

summarise, indians got on under british rule, poor , ill-governed people not politicised , imperial masters avoided "hot potato" political issues rather well. 150 years of british rule passed 1 incident on national scale testement this.

n.b. "british take-over" rather misleading; rather powerful british interests (unified in eic) encroached upon various indian principalities on many decades culmination in 19thc.
