Mazda Protege Check Engine Light?

check engine light on 2000 mazda protege comes on , goes off periodically. last time went inspection, told me computer not ready , told me drive 200 miles. light came on again before 200 miles up. thing driving me nuts!! drives fine can not sticker. , squealling belts, have tried including dealer belts , thing squeals crazy. have noticed when it's colder.... please help!! car manual 143k miles.
